WHO THE HELL IS RAY CRITES?!

Simply put, I’m a storyteller. Growing up GenX, I soaked up every movie, TV show, book, song, and piece of pop culture I could get my grubby little hands on, and that left me with an insatiable desire to tell stories of my own.

As soon as I had the money, I bought a video camera and started filming whatever I could. I pictured myself as the next Lucas, Spielberg, or Coppola. But life had other plans. I got married, raised a family, started a business, and worked the daily grind. Ordinary. Unfulfilling. Boring. The passion never left though, and in 2014 I finally sat down and wrote my very first screenplay. And let me tell you… IT. TOTALLY. SUCKED. But I was hooked. I kept sitting my ass in the chair, again and again, because writing is my true calling. And eventually, I became a stronger, better writer.

Now I’m ready to rock and roll!

When it comes to my writing style, I believe in “writing what you know.” My stories reflect who I am, how I see the world, and the experiences I’ve lived through, both happy and tragic. Those moments left a mark, and that realism gives my characters depth. They feel like real people, because in many ways, they are. And that is what I love about them, and why I love screenwriting.
